Gyrating Vibrator 101 Guide
What is a gyrating vibrator? Maybe you’ve seen them while shopping on our site and wondered what makes them so special. I know I was pretty curious until I got one for myself!
Ok, but seriously, what are they?! A gyrating sex toy that has a motorized gyroscope ball in it that turns in a fast, circular rotation to create deeper vibrations. If you’ve ever shaken a magic 8 ball, it’s a similar feeling in your hands if you shake a gyrating vibrator that’s powered off. There are now a variety of gyroscopic vibrators, several years after the Gyr8tor entered the market promising to revolutionize the sex toy industry.
Gyrating vibrators have made the rounds over the past year, shaking their way onto retail sites like ours. With more toy companies releasing gyrating vibes, we decided it’s time to talk about them. Evolved Novelties, Blush, and NS Novelties have all released options recently, and I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on some of them to tell you what they’re all about.
Right off the bat, you need to know that the gyrating vibrators get pretty intense, but also vary from brand to brand. The vibrations aren’t like a majority of the vibrating toys on the market, so you should expect something a little different. I made a video for you to see, because words can’t accurately describe the difference.
In my video, you can see the NS Novelties Revolution Hurricane and Revolution Earthquake on the left, Evolved Novelties Gyro Vibe in the middle, Blush Impressions New York Gyro-Quake, and Maia’s Tegan on the right. The Tegan isn’t a gyrating vibe, but I wanted to include it to show you the difference between a gyro toy vs a “jumping” toy. They’re thrusting, they’re shaking, they’re quaking.
Depending on how intense you like your vibrations, you may find that the NS Novelties options are too intense, but these are my personal favorites because of the remote control. The remote becomes essential when using the Revolution Tsunami, the double ended gyrating vibrator option. Because of how much each of these vibrators moves, I do recommend inserting before turning on the vibes!
With the gyroscope, each of the toys has one big thing in common: the flared ball at the bottom of the shaft. These are all large enough that they’re all safe for anal usage, not just vaginal!
Each of these options has a suction cup base. Usually, I don't have strong enough feelings to talk much about them, but gyrating toys have changed that. For me, I found that hand holding the base of a gyrating toy was too much movement and I ended up with the dreaded vibrator hand. I would recommend using these when they’re suctioned down, or at least secured in a dildo mount. If you are using a mount, make sure there’s some weight to it so it’s not shaking and quaking its way away from you.
Now, I haven’t tried this, but since there is a suction base on each of these toys, you could use a strap-on harness to top someone with a gyrating dildo. The suction base does fit into my o-ring harness, but I think I would want some padding so as not to bruise my FUPA with the intensity of the vibrations. I imagine something like a Bumpher would help provide enough cushion to make topping with a gyrating vibrator more comfortable.
So which gyrating vibrator is right for you?
If gyrating vibrators are intimidating but you’re still curious, start with Blush’s Impressions New York Gyro-Quake Vibe. This one has the most vibration functions with 3 gyro-quake intensities and 9 vibration functions, allowing you to build up your intensity to best suit your desires. Blush’s silicone is also unparalleled, making it my preferred when it comes to drag and overall material texture. This one also has the most realistic look to it with a well defined head and a slight increase in girth as it goes down the shaft towards the gyroscope.
If you’re looking for something more intense for solo play, try the Revolution Earthquake. The suction cup base is strong and the ridges on the shaft aren’t overwhelming. It’s got a slight curve at the head, making it great for both g-spot and p-spot stimulation. The remote control makes alternating between the 3 vibrating functions easy!
Looking for something with less girth for some anal pleasure? Try the Revolution Hurricane, an anal bead style vibrator with 4 beads that will fill you up as it thrusts into you. While this one may have looked the most intense in the video I shared earlier, remember that it’s also the thinnest so the shaft has more movement due to the design. The size of the beads actually makes the Hurricane great for beginners and experienced users!
Want to share a gyrating dildo with a friend? Then the Revolution Tsunami is where it’s at. I’ve compared this one to the Evolved Novelties’ Our Gyro Vibe, and this one still wins hands down. Both ends are shaped slightly differently, with one end being slightly more girthy than the other, and it comes with a remote. The Tsunami makes scissoring a lot of fun, and if you’re ready to turn up the vibrations mid-romp, then you just grab the remote rather than trying to locate the buttons while it’s still inside you and your play partner.
